Welcome to the Department of Mechanical Engineering, a dynamic place of opportunity where excellence, growth, creativity, and strong leadership are encouraged and rewarded.

We recognize that our strength and excellence come from the incredible people who are the heart of our department, including our world-renowned academics, our dedicated support staff, and our hardworking and very high calibre students.

One of the two core aims of our department is to provide an exceptional education for the next generation of mechanical engineers. We take great pride in our strong educational programs that instill solid fundamentals and emphasize valuable hands-on practical learning opportunities.

With many of our researchers international experts in their fields, our other core aim involves advancing mechanical engineering knowledge through leading research programs. Our department offers a wide variety of cutting edge research opportunities.

Growth has long been a top priority; since it was founded in 1958 our department has grown to become the largest mechanical engineering department in Canada, with 40 professors and 950 students. While our large numbers provide us with many unique and valuable opportunities for research and learning, we also strive to ensure we are a personable and welcoming place where all are valued, a place where we look forward to coming too.
