Mechanical Engineering Building

Formed in 1958, the Department of Mechanical Engineering may be the youngest engineering department formed at the University of Alberta but it also has the single largest undergraduate program within the entire Faculty of Engineering.

The Mechanical Engineering building was opened in 1973 and houses an array of lecture theatres, classrooms, undergraduate laboratories and state-of-the-art research facilities. There is also a large machine shop, an undergraduate student workspace for curricular and extra-curricular activities, computer services, and laboratories.

In the Department there are over 700 undergraduate students in the program, 250 graduate students, and 44 professors. Undergraduate degrees are available in Mechanical Engineering with options for CO-OP programs and Bio-medical Engineering, and graduate degree options in Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Management.
